The Blue Mountains' Sunset Picnic Spots

Whether you're planning a romantic picnic date, a relaxed catch up with friends or a family dinner with a difference, we have you covered.

There aren’t many better things to be enjoyed outdoors than a majestic sunset vista, accompanied with delicious food and a glass of wine. Let us fill you in on the best places to watch the sun set (and what to eat while doing it) in each township of the upper Blue Mountains.

Blackheath

You're spoilt for choice when it comes to lookout options in the sleepy town of Blackheath. Hargraves Lookout is a hidden gem off the beaten track with sweeping views of both the Megalong Valley and Kanimbla Valley.

Grab your meal from Pizza Delish, worth trying is the Station Street Special or Pumpkin Delight options.

Katoomba

Cahill's Lookout is a favourite hangout for Scenic World team members to soak up the day’s final rays of sun.

The lookout is one of the most accessible vantage points in the upper mountains and provides breathtaking scenery over the Narrow Neck tableland and Boar's Head Rock.

Appreciate the view accompanied with Nasuage miso eggplant and fresh salmon don at Sushi n Co, another Scenic World team fave.

If you’re more of a DIY picnicker then Carrington Cellars is worth checking out for its gourmet deli goods, as well as its offering of fine wines and craft beers from around the world.

Leura

See the world famous Three Sisters from a different angle at the Leura lookout Sublime Point. You’ll be surrounded by golden cliff faces and a variety of native birdlife as the sun sets over the Jamison Valley.

Picnic tables are available if you fancy a sit-down meal, please note that on warm nights the carpark fills quickly so make sure you get there early to secure a prime spot!

Pair the view with a takeaway Pad Thai or Tom Yum Noodle Soup from Thai Square.

Wentworth Falls

Most Blue Mountains locals have watched the sunset at Lincoln's Rock more times than they can count, and once you see the sweeping views of the valley you’ll know why.

This large flat rock is the perfect spot to roll out the picnic rug and watch the sunset while enjoying the company of friends and family!

Experience this vista while munching on a classic milk bar style burger (with the lot) and chicken salt chips from The Falls Takeaway.
