A Daytrip in Lovely Leura

Leura brings old world charm to the Blue Mountains with its historic houses, gorgeous gardens, world-class restaurants and unique shops. We’ve pulled together a full day of fun for your next trip to this vibrant garden village.

Lily’s Pad Café

Starting off with the most important meal of the day, head to Lily’s Pad Café. This local favourite is a quiet oasis off the main street of Leura serving up amazing coffee and crowd favourites. If you’re looking to fill up for the big day ahead try the Lily’s big breakfast, or if you’re after something lighter opt for the Smashed Avocado which receives rave reviews! All jams, chutneys and desserts are made in house and take away is available.

Lyrebird Dell Walking Track

The Lyrebird Dell Walking track is a 1.7 km loop which takes up to an hour and a half. The track leads to a unique cave site of Aboriginal significance and is popular among families and birdwatchers.

Everglades House & Gardens

Everglades is a quintessential Leura experience, with its spacious manicured grounds and striking Art Deco homestead. Wander through time among the European-style gardens, look out over the Jamison Valley from various lookouts and take in the tranquil Reflection Pool. You can also enjoy the tea rooms and gift shop, or one of the many unique events which are often held on the grounds.

Red Door Cafe

After a big morning, it’s time for a well-earned lunch. The famous Red Door Café has something for everyone with a range of reasonably priced café meals. Sit by the large front window which faces Leura Mall for a spot of people watching, or hide away in the outdoor area with a cuddly blanket and beautiful over hanging trees. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are available.

Leura Mall

Now it’s time to hit the mall! Leura is best known for two things; gardens and shopping, and once you lay eyes on Leura Mall’s cherry blossom filled streets you’ll quickly discover why. With vintage charm and unique retailers, you can easily spend a whole afternoon wandering in and out of the shops that line the street.

Walk into independent bookstore Megalong Books and you’re instantly met with floor to ceiling shelves of classic titles and the comforting smell of fresh pages. A few doors up you will find iKOU’s flagship store. This natural skin care business was started in a Blackhealth couples’ kitchen before the pair opened their first retail space in Leura. They are now a global outfit stocked in some of the most luxurious resorts and spas in the world!

For the fashionistas, try Mrs Peel Modern Vintage for a one of kind find, or Teddy Sinclair to treat yourself with a trendy but timeless accessory. For the little ones, you can’t go past the famous Candy Store or the Leura Toy Shop.

The ‘Alex’

Would you like stunning breathtaking views with your pint or pinot? At the Alexandra Hotel beer garden you get just that. Overlooking the Jamison Valley and Mount Solitary this beer garden is Leura’s best kept secret. Let the kids run around while you put your feet up and soak up the afternoon sun.

Flemish Flavours

You’ll be surprised to find this hidden gem is located right in the heart of Leura! Soak in Flemish Flavours’ gorgeous gardens and watch the sun set over the Jamison Valley as the kids enjoy the swing set on the lush green grass. On the menu you’ll find traditional Belgian food made from local and seasonal produce. Bookings recommended.

Silk’s Brasserie

This Blue Mountains institution has been serving up beautiful meals for over 20 years. Located in Leura Mall, Silk’s Brasserie is warm and inviting with its crisp white table cloths and mood lighting. The à la carte menu is full of modern Australian dishes with a French flare, which is also reflected in the wine list, with mostly local drops on offer. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
