Top 5 Picnic Spots in the Upper Blue Mountains

Epic views and sunshine are best enjoyed from a top notch picnic spot in the heart of the Blue Mountains. Here are our favourites to tempt you up the mountains this Spring.

Epic views and sunshine are best enjoyed from a top notch picnic spot in the heart of the Blue Mountains. Here are our favourites to tempt you up the mountains this Spring.

  1. Gordon Falls, Leura Stock up on gourmet fare from the the main street of Leura and head to the Gordon Falls Picnic Area. With amazing views, great bushwalks and a playground for the kids, it’s a great spot for the whole family.
  2. Scenic World BYO picnic or pick up supplies from the Cafe at Scenic World and ride the world’s steepest passenger railway down to the floor of the Jamison Valley. From there take a stroll along the 2.4 kilometre elevated boardwalk, pull up stumps in one of the six picnic shelters (pictured above) and enjoy your picnic lunch among the tall trees of the ancient rainforest.
  3. Wentworth Falls LakeNot only is it the biggest picnic area in the Blue Mountains, but the short bushwalk around the edge of Wentworth Falls Lake is also one of the prettiest. There’s also a great pirate ship playground, electric barbeques and bathroom facilities.
  4. Memorial Park Blackheath With plenty of shady trees, a duck pond, sheltered picnic tables, barbeques, three playgrounds to choose from and a public swimming pool, Memorial Park in Blackheath ticks all the boxes, and then some. There are no catering facilities at the park, but head into one of the nearby cafes or bakeries for supplies to make the most of this hidden gem.
  5. Old Ford Reserve, Megalong ValleyNestled along the grassy banks of the Megalong Creek, Old Ford Reserve is sure to satisfy. As you drive down the tree lined access road from Blackheath, the Megalong Valley opens up before your eyes, and what a beautiful vista it is!
