And it’s a wrap – literally!
From 10 February to 5 March 2023 the Scenic Skyway swapped her iconic yellow dress for rainbow garb to celebrate Sydney WorldPride, the biggest pride festival in the world that attracted hundreds of thousands of people to Sydney.
Scenic World celebrates WorldPride
From 10 February to 5 March 2023, Scenic World hosted one of the 45 flags of as part of Sydney WorldPride’s Rainbow City project.
In a world-first spectacle, visitors to the Blue Mountains could see the Scenic Skyway wrapped in the Progress Flag travelling back and forth across the Jamison Valley against the background of the iconic Three Sisters and majestic Mount Solitary. Scenic World is proud to have had the opportunity to showcase the Progress Rainbow in a regional centre like the Blue Mountains and for the local LGBTQIA+ community to feel part of the celebrations.
On 18 and 19 February we hosted a weekend of celebration as part of WorldPride Amplified. Guests could take a ride on the world's steepest train with a drag king, have their face painted in the rainbow and enjoy a burlesque show, and strut the runway of the Progress Skyway with a drag queen. Performers included: Betty Confetti, CC Lamour’, Verushka Darling, Elle Virus and Felicity Frockaccino.
Gimme that view
Scenic World was thrilled to host guests from across the world, Australia and the local community, including UK singer and songwriter, Sam Smith, former Big Brother star, Tim Dormer and international media as part of our celebrations.
Guests could also experience the world’s only rooftop cable car adventure adorned with the Progress Flag on the Beyond Skyway Pride Ride. Beyond Skyway is a world-first, premium experience, which allows up to four guests to enjoy 360-degree views of the Jamison Valley, 270m above the rainforest canopy creating a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
Stars align to support youth at risk
During Sydney WorldPride, Scenic World partnered with Platform Youth Services to raise funds for youth at risk to be included in the 2023 Mardi Gras celebrations.
Designer to the stars, Bradley Pinkerton, designed limited edition merchandise for Scenic World’s WorldPride celebration with a percentage of proceeds going to Platform Youth Services. The merchandise is still available to purchase from Scenic World’s retail store.
